Windrush Celebrations

On Saturday 26th June, Local community groups Zedgeneration UK and ThurrockBME (TBME) organised the Windrush Celebration 2021 with live entertainment & international food.

It took place at the Worlds End Pub next to the historic Tilbury Fort built by King Henry V11, attendees included Sidra Naeem, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Essex, the Mayor of Thurrock and local councillors.
Poignantly others at the event were Simeon Grossett, Chair of the Windrush Housing Association, and board member of the Windrush Compensation scheme: Audley English founder of Buildeco, and UK’s first West Indian architect; children and grandchildren of the original pioneers.

Attendees spoke about the significance of Windrush, and the importance of recognising the contribution of the black and minority groups in Thurrock and across the UK.

The event followed an earlier event on the same day at Tilbury Passenger terminal launching the art on the walkway.
